About the 2026 Lunar Calendar

How to read a lunar calendar

A lunar calendar tracks the moon's 29.5-day cycle. The 8 main phases — new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent — each carry different energies and practical applications.

Full moon names in 2026

Each full moon has a traditional name. January brings the Wolf Moon, February the Snow Moon, March the Worm Moon, April the Pink Moon, and so on through December's Cold Moon. These names come from Native American and colonial American traditions.

New moon vs full moon

The new moon occurs when the moon is between Earth and the sun, making it invisible. The full moon occurs when Earth is between the sun and moon, fully illuminating the lunar surface. Both are peak energy points in the lunar cycle used for intention-setting and release.

Moon phases and gardening

Biodynamic gardening follows lunar cycles. Plant leafy vegetables and flowers during the waxing phase. Harvest, prune, and plant root vegetables during the waning phase. The full moon and new moon are considered especially powerful planting and harvesting days.
